Re: The Greatest Mistake was- a Union with New Eng

The concept of the Constitution was never to create "One Nation" but to create a "Union of Nations" under which each of the seperate Nations handled their affairs within their borders themselves. It was never meant for a central Federal Government to create a single national "conscience" or "morality".

As the now popular saying now goes, 'What happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas'. Well it was supposed to be 'What happens in New York, stays in New York' and 'What happens in South Carolina, stays in South Carolina'. In only a very few things did the United States Government ever have to power to dictate anything to the States. Lincoln took that power away from the states at the point of a Bayonet with the help of an ignorant people who thought they were doing something good.
