Is "Mr." an insult?

I have noticed that I often use the term "Mr. Lincoln" when speaking about you know who. I don't know why I do this. Maybe I picked it up from some part of my culture or from reading books. I know I never thought about it being an insult but looking closer I see how it can be percieved as saying "not my president".

That being said I also am aware that "Mr. Davis" doesn't get listed on any Presidential list these days but he too was a President and I have often seem him reffered to as "Mr. Davis" in books and forums etc.

Does anybody think I'm reading too much into this? I have no problem saying President Lincoln because there is no doubt he was President of the U.S. I just wish President Davis was shown the same courtesy.

P.S.... During our Revolutionary War nobody seems to have reffered to King George as "Mr. George." But... I bet they had some choice names for him too :-)
