I understand Alan. I thought it a bit ironic that a whole bunch of those in Capt English Company were Creek. Seems like every few years they had to try to chase the US Army off their land. Didn't work very often so they resorted to just raking in money.

Steve Stacey told me of hubby's GGGrandfather, a Stacey, who was about 14 or 15 when the Yankee's came through. Steve's ancestor, a brother of hubby's grand, was wounded in some skirmish or something and had been sent home to heal. He was inside the house when the Yankee's came riding into the yard. Hubby's grand saw them trying to take the only cow and there were a couple of little kids in the house so he grabbed a gun and told them they couldn't have it. Seems the Lt was impressed and they left without taking the cow. They didn't look in the house either.
