On this date 150 years ago, Western Virginia was again an area of light military activity. Blue Creek, Boone Court House and Burlington all witnessed their share of brief skirmishing.

Jefferson County, Missouri, was the focus of action in the west. At Cape Girardeau in Missouri, General Ulysses S. Grant assumed command of Federal forces.
