It makes a person wonder. Just when did Major Anderson develope this Mental Illness? Certainly the mental strain on him would have been great to be at the center of such a crisis as Fort Sumter. But it would seem that from most of his correspondence (at least his official public one) he seemed to be in control of his mental facilities.

You hear very little about Anderson after the Bombardment of Fort Sumter, which leads me to believe that maybe he arrived at his condition because of the Bombardment.
