On this date 150 years ago, in response to General fremont's proclamations concerning martial law and the emancipation of slaves, President Lincoln communicated to the General his concerns. The President felt that there was a danger of alienating Southern Federal sympathizers and "perhaps ruin our rather fair prospects for Kentucky."
