On this date 150 years ago, General Fremont's conduct in Missouri continued to worry President Lincoln, who was advised by some military officials to relieve Fremont of his command. THe President directed General David Hunter to go to Missouri to provide Fremont with aid.

General Rosecrans' troops advanved on Confederates near Carnifex Ferry, Virginia, where skirmishing had been continuing.
