On this date 150 years ago, President Lincoln met with his cabinet; General Fremont was once again the topic of discussion as reports concerning his command in the West were presented. The secretary of the navy received word that the Federal expeditions to the Southern coast were to commence within the month.

Another publication, the Louisville, Kentucky, "Courier", was prevented from using the postal service. The newspaper had indicated an alleged hostility to the Union cause and several employees were arrested by Federal officials when the headquarters of the "Courier" were seized.
