On this date 150 years ago, Santa Rosa Island in Pensacola Bay, Florida, was the scene of a Confederate assault on Union batteries. A force of 1000 troops under the command of General Richard Heron Anderson tried unsuccessfully to destroy the Federal shore batteries and was obligated to withdraw. Troops from Fort Pickens on Santa Rosa Island were instrumental in the rebuff of this Southern force.

Perhaps Pam could tell us about the big events this weekend to mark the occasion. ;)
