On this date 150 years ago, in Missouri, Thompson's raiders again strike a party of Union soldiers near Potosi, captured 50 and burned the Big River Bridge.

In order to overtake the vessel that alledgedly carried John Slidell and James Mason, three Union gunboats left New York in search of the "Nashville", despite the fact that the commissioners were sailing to Cuba on the "Theodora".
