I agree, this is one of the better books describing the campaign and battles of the Red River Campaign. I especially recall the description of "Mouton's Charge" at Mansfield and the heroism of the Louisiana and Texas troops, who executed a desperate and successful attack that "broke" the Union army, but at a high cost. There was no less valor on the fields of Mansfield, Pleasant Hill and the other battles of this campaign than existed on the better-known battlefields of the East.
