Tennessee's Hurst was considered a rouge officer of the Union who terrorized his neighbors after TN was occupied and he was thoroughly hated. But in the "Reconstruction Legislature", I read he was "elected" to the state legislature for his home area... can anyone shed light on the fact that he was elected by people that hated him? How was the election flawed, or was he really 'loved'?
