The Sword of General A.S. Johnston

Given to then Brigadier General A.S. Johnston in 1860 by Fitz-John Porter and "members of Staff" who had seved him in Utah Territory 1857-60. Date "1857" correctly and respectfully commemorates the reto-active brevet date of November of that year. Worn in California and at Shiloh by General Johnston. Retrieved by his son (April 17,1862) Col. William Preston Johnston, and worn by him, as ADC to Jefferson Davis, until his capture in 1865. A national treasure!
