Baseball also was played during the WBTS by both the Union and Confederate troops. I have a diary reference that actually refers to a "baseball bat". Unfortunately, it wasn't being used during a game!

"On the morning of October 25, 1861, there was a fight in Captain Dent’s Company, the Livingston Rifles, which resulted in the knocking down of several and the serious injury of Private John T. Jenkins. He received a severe skull fracture when he had been struck over the head with a baseball bat by Private James Ustick of the same company."
