Re: US & Confederate Cavalry horses

For my Ancestor who served in the 3rd Ala. Cavalry. "Received at Alexanderia, Alabama on August 1, 1863--Two Hundred and Seventy five dollars in full" and signed J. W. Barnett. Payment for the loss of his horse killed in action at Shelbyville, Tennessee on June 27, 1863. Signed by Lt. James Hunter Co. E. Apparently not being able to secure another horse, he was transferred to a field artillery battery.
