On this date 150 years ago, the Potomac River Dam Number Five was the site of a small clash between Federal and rebel soldiers.

Further military activity took place as a group of Confederate troops took Glasglow, Missouri.

In a move to prevent the Confederate evasion of the blockade, the USS "Santiago de Cuba" stopped the English ship "Eugenia Smith". The Union vessel, under the command of Daniel Ridgely, succeeded in seizing J. W. Zacharie of New Orleans, Louisiana. Zacharie was a known Confederate purchasing agent and this incident served to increase the agitation engendered by the "Trent" affair.
