Secession in 1861

I recently ran across a truly interesting and funny factoid and thought some of you might like to have an interesting trivia bit, which perhaps you haven't previously heard.
1. Northern-most governmental body seceding from the Union in 1861?

The village of Town Line, NY in Erie County seceded from the union at a township vote in 1861 (reasons now unknown). Five townsmen served in the Confederate Army and approximately 20 served in the Union Army.

2. What was the last governmental body to rejoin the Union after the Civil War?

The village of Town Line, NY in Erie County rejoined the Union in October of 1946, After consulting with President Truman on how to manage the process.

The information can be confirmed by Googling Town Line, NY

Always something new to learn!
