I do not remember ever hearing anything good associated with Sherman's name until I read a bio on him about 20 years ago and I thought it had to be biased. It wasn't fitting my early US History teacher's description of the man. I believe we were always led to believe Sherman was the South's version of Simon Legree. Just a nast piece of evil work. There was, and still is, bias on both sides about certain people. The more I read on Sherman and Grant the more I can see they were just human but had some baggage and some tough orders to follow out from the 'Stovepipe".
