On this date 150 years ago, President Lincoln, due to the fact that General McClellan was ill, contacted General Halleck in Missouri. The chief executive was concerned that the Union army seemed to lack direction and focus. He asked Halleck "Are you and General Buell in concert?" hoping that the Western Department would be pressed into action of some sort.
