On this date 150 years ago, Confederate troops under General Felix Zollicoffer were positioned north of the Cumberland River despite General Crittenden's orders to the contrary. The arrangement proves later to be an unsatisfactory one. Union troops were said to be pushing forward towards this rebel encampment.

Cedar Keys, Florida, saw the burning of blockade-runners, as well as dockside property, by the Federal navy.
