On this date 150 years ago, Federals attempted to disrupt Rebel blockade running by sinking stone-laden vessels in the harbor at Charleston, South Carolina. Off the coast of Alabama, a Confederate ship trying to run the Union blockade was halted; running the "J W Wilder" ashore, Federals made an effort to board the vessel but were prevented from doing so by rebel troops in the area. However, the blockade-runner was put out of commission.
