This story has been hidden well for a very long time. I understand why in the early years after the war but one would think it would have been brought to the attention of the public at some point in time. It seems the 'victor' does have control of the media and the textbooks for at least a century and more. I remember my Grandfather saying Roswell was a disgrace but he didn't go into detail. Growing up in the Cold War we thought he meant New Mexico. I have never seen the story of the Georgia women in any school History book. The acts that would show barbarian activity by the Union have been squashed. This includes the treatment of POW's in the Northern prisons. The horrors in Southern prisons have been allowed to be plastered in any media vehicle since before the end of the war. Even so, there were more understandable reasons conditions were so bad in the Southern prisons.
When the US goes to war, even if it is with neighbors, it doesn't quite follow any rules. We've seen mention of the US treatment of Native Americans but even then, it's always edited to show the US was 'right'. That's BS as we all know.
