On this date 150 years ago, General Grant's force was scheduled to open it's attack on Fort Henry on the Tennessee River within 24 hours. General Charles Smith's men seized an evacuated Fort Heiman near Fort Henry, establishing Union troops there. Meanwhile, 3000 Confederates under General Lloyd Tilighman prepared as best they could for the upcoming attack on Fort Henry.
