The Charleston Mercury has several articles in the month of November 1860 on the different flags being flown, the Palmetto Flag in Charleston was first raised by a B. Schur- but there are probably a dozen different decriptions of Palmetto Flags- and the one flown by the Captain of the Columbia is not described.
