The Pledge was written in 1892 by a yankee named Francis Bellamy. He was kicked out of the Baptist Church for preaching that Jesus was a Socialist. His aim was to indoctrinate school children, especially Southern children into accepting the Federal Government as their master. It appears that he was highly successful.
