Unfortunately, slavery did exist in 1860. Since it was a part of the Constitution, lincoln would have had no cause for war if the southern states had not seceded precipitately. BTW, I did say "perhaps" in referring to Sally possibly having borne Jefferson's children. If not her, whom? Just asking. Stan
