On this date 150 years ago, after his election to the presidency of the Confederacy (up until then he had been Provisional President) Jefferson Davis' inauguration was held at Richmond, Virginia. In his address to the Confederate nation, Davis said, "We are in arms to renew such sacrifices as our fathers made to the holy cause of constitutional liberty."
