Now my people, that is the women of my family, that is my grandmothers...were very dutiful towards religion; not so the men, they worshipped at home on Sunday. My father never went to church, his father went only to drive my grandmother and to eat Church Sunday Dinner, and my mothers father went to different church than my grandmother (his wife). In fact, I know of several married couples in my Mississippi family that didn't attend the same church on a regular basis. Our little town of 2,000 people there are at least 20 churches in a 5 mile radius (its ten miles to the next town) of various sects. I remember going to many of them with my friends- to meet girls. Our primary religion used the circuit minister method who held church once a month. We only went to our church one Sunday a month- so in between we went to other churches to see how they did it (but mostly to meet girls).
I was christened a Methodist, worshiped with the Baptist, sang and at dinner with the Primitive Baptist, went to Sunday school at the Church of God, and sometimes hung out at the Catholic Church with my friends. To me they were all the same.
