Re: Civil War Reinactment needed DEEP South Texas

(Moved from Texas in the Civil War Message Board by Admin)

I have done living history in several school districts and fired the weapon on campus. We after all, are only burning gun powder, there is no round in the weapon. It helps the kids understand the sight, sound, smell, and smoke of the battlefield. It is done outside and very little disruption of the campus is made. The classes like meeting out side as well. It also gives us time to form them into a unit and let them understand something about the fighting. Since I have studied war most of my life, I have parts of my talks that are anti war and I also touch on the race issues of the day, and how people judge people today. We do learn from the past and what it teaches us makes us a better world today.

What town, and what dates? I normally do two days, because I have spent over 30 years of study in this subject and I look at things just a bit different. With what was going on in the country, mainly. I do have my BA for Texas State University (97) and a long military history background. My degree is double majored in Geography and History. I am also a former VP of the Austin Civil War Roundtable and have met most of those people you see on the History Channel talking about the War. It has been noted by me that most of the people who write the books know what they wrote about and very little more. Even the most knowledgeable who can tell you what unit fought what unit at this spot or that on many battlefields don't know the platform of the Republican Party of 1860. Which is real important. A Northern Party with a pro-Northern Platform. Nothing in it for the South. In fact if the Rev. is started by taxation what you say to an increase of the national tariff to 80% on the dollar? That means the South would be paying .80 cents for each dollar worths of goods imported. They were already putting about 65 - 70 million per year in the the national pocket book. And then Lincoln said that the Federal Forts in the south didn't belong to the South.
