"For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows."
We would do well to remember that money didn't exist in the Garden of Eden. Despite that Adam and Eve still managed to get themselves (and all of us) in serious trouble.
Bert, your posts suggest that the only people who lived in slave states paid the tariff. You also give the impression that only Northern politicians ever supported a tariff. Is that what you intended to say? Can you name any antebellum Southern leaders who supported a tariff? What about the Confederate government? Did the Confederacy have a tariff?
What was the Morrill Tariff and when did it become law? Was this before or after the secession of the Deep South states?
