On this date 150 years ago, State militia in Missouri clashed at Hammondsville with Confederate forces; at Warrensburg pro-Unionists confronted Confederates; the latter were repelled in both cases.

In Colorado Territory there was an encounter between Southern cavalry and Union forces near Denver City which resulted in the capture of 50 Confederate calvarymen.

In New Mexico Territory, Confederates met a troop of Union soldiers that were coming towards Sante Fe from Fort Union. There was a fight between the two forces at Apache Canyon, which resulted in a victory for the Union troops who then fell back to an area near Glorietta. Confederate troops regrouped after the skirmish and followed the Union forces.
