On this date 150 years ago, James Andrews, a spy for the Union, had led a group of 21 men through the Confederate lines in order to seize a train on the Western and Atlantic Railroad. Taking the locomotive, the "General", Andrews and his men headed northward, followed by Confederates in the locomotive "Texas". Andrews and his men were caught by the Southern forces and were eventually executed, with the exception of 14 who were imprisoned.
