When the modern definition of a soldier is applied to Confederates, there are tens of thousands of free and slave blacks: teamsters, cooks, musicians, aides, and occassionally infantrymen. It is absurd to overlook the impact of black soldiers in the Confederate Army. The revisionists want us to accept their definition of a soldier as only an enlisted man carrying a weapon in order to discount the contribution of black Confederates (both free and conscripted). Personally, I would be more impressed to learn how many black men served in any capacity (e.g. ANV during the Gettysburg Campaign).
And the millions of black people who remained at home, working in agriculture and industry, rather than run away or revolt were just as valuable to the Confederacy as the loyal white citizens. It is just not PC to give them credit. BTW, I am not being critical of black people or anyone else who ever escaped from slavery.
