If Alabama granted pension support to black veterans, the state probably would have kept a seperate roll for them. Tennessee provides a good example of this practice. If anyone is unfamiliar with these records, they (like all other state pension records) include applications that were denied due to insufficient evidence of service as well as those that were approved.
