Re: Total Casualties: Non-combatants.

So, the tens of thousands of irregulars, partisans, and guerillas were all non-combatants, right? I have often wondered how many civilains were killed due to Lincoln's policy of Total War. For example, the shelling of Southern cities, particularly by the U.S. Navy and also the burning of towns. There were probably more than a few civilains that died from disease and malnutrtion during the seige of Vicksburg. And when towns and crops were destroyed after planting season, then people who were left behind must have been hard pressed to feed themselves.
