The fortunes of war are strange at times. Longstreet wanted to attack at Malvern Hill; Hill did not. Yet Hill was assigned the main point of attack, and failed in the face of overwhelming fire. At Little Round Top, Longtsreet did not wish to follow Lee's plan on the second day, nor to send Pickett on his charge on the third day. He was late in his movements at little Round Top, and stood silent until Pickett gave the order to advance. perhaps Lee should have chosen his leaders more carefully at times than he did. I am not demeaning the bravery of any of these Generals. It just seems possible that enthusiasm might have been missing in making an attack with which you disagreed. Stan
