Re: Jeff Davis ambrotype on Ebay

Jamie
.. Went back and checked on the "Jeff" photo listing...
Starting price was 20K, auction ended Saturday (Aug 18th), it indicated it had 9 bids, and price was up to 23K when it ended, would appear it had sold..

Monday Aug 20th, the same auction relisted.. adding "Price reduced for museum aquisition"... yet still starting at the same 20K... and a shorter 3 day auction.. surprized someone hasnt flagged it to ebay...

Hmmm what happened to the NINE bidders... It is listed as a private auction so no one else gets to see who has reportedly bid on it... These folks commonly will have alternate ebay bidder accounts and/or friends put in bids to run up the price and give the impression of something valuable and legitimate to lure others in...

Seems this is one of the latest scam fads.. finding images of unknowns that may have some minor resemblance of someone famous, and try to pawn it off as some rare unpublished authentic photo of the person in question... The prior ones also put in authentic photos to compare... and pointing out key simularities that dont actually exist... but if told it is, one might think it is...
