Re: General Forrest and Glenn Beck

Jack --

How did we get from GB to "life will end as we know it in 10 years or less"?

You asked for help.

First, what you said is true. And what GB said is true also. The Confederate Constitution prohibited Congress from making any law that restricted or abolished slavery in any member state. The Constitution was written by slaveholders who intended to perpetuate the institution of slavery.

GB offered this information to his audience as a discovery which explains the motives of all Southerners who supported the Confederacy. GB wants to present American history as a simple story with simple explanations. That's my complaint. If the causes of the Civil War could be understood that easily, further discussion would be a waste of time.

Regarding General Forrest, there's no evidence to support GB's claims on Fort Pillow. Even Forrest's enemies didn't make those claims. Without any evidence, GB displayed a sword he claimed belonged to General Forrest and told us how he used it in a wartime atrocity.

People who offer speculation without a bit of evidence really trouble me.

Since you asked for help, let me explain.
Slavery does not mean secession. GB said not one word about secession. Jack, explanations contain reasonable, factual information on the topic. You offered speculation about GBs "real" motives. GB did a similar spin on a different story. Presuming to know the 'true' motives of another person without any evidence is wrong. If I remember, Scripture warns us to stay away from that.

Unless a statement has evidence to support it, be skeptical and withhold comment or opinion until you’re satisfied on the evidence. We should all be most skeptical about things we would like to believe, like some African wants to make us fabulously wealthy. Act now!

You wrote, "They are Paid establishment frauds there to brainwash people."
All the media men you named are in the political opinion business for profit. Every last one of them. Listen to Rush, or listen to Rense (who looks too much like Jeff Foxworthy in drag for my taste). Either way, don't buy what anyone says on face value only. Check it out.

For what it's worth, mass communication and its impact on public opinion helped bring about the Civil War. Misled and inflamed by mass media, people on both sides made bad decisions. For example, many Northern readers believed Harriet Beecher Stowe's depiction of slavery in Uncle Tom's Cabin, the most widely-read book of the mid-1850s. Fiction shaped public opinion and political results then as now.

Speaking of history repeating itself -- during the war some Southerners considered Jefferson Davis and other Confederate officials to be paid establishment hacks. Just like today, they didn't trust the Federal government or the organized opposition, either. Deciding to listen to "true conservatives", they went to the sidelines while others did the fighting. As a result, the Southern cause was crushed by the Federal government.
