Re: Regimental blacksmiths
In Response To: Regimental blacksmiths ()

He would have been paid, in addition to his $11/month salary as a Private, and additional 25 cts./day extra duty pay. Yesterday, I saw for the first time the comment, not paid on Sundays on another site. I would believe that Sundays were days off work.

I suspect he reported from sick leave before Murfreesboro and not yet reassigned to his previous Teamster's assignment.

Pvt. Richard Chaddick, Company C 7th Mississippi Volunteer Infantry, detached from Company as Teamster since Jan. 18, 1862, recorded October 31, 1862 as absent sick since July 20, 1862, severely wounded at Murfreesboro, Tenn. December 31, 1862, [In 1st Charge 300 yds. in front of 1st Breast works], on extra duty as Regimental Teamster since March 4, 1863, on extra duty at Blacksmith's Forge since March 25, 1863, employed on extra duty at Chattanooga, Tenn., August 1-31, 1863, 4 Sundays did not work, September 1-30, 1863, and November 1-30, 1863 as a Blacksmith, employed as a Teamster June 1-30, 1864, last recorded on extra duty at Chattanooga August 31, 1864, no further records
