Re: R. E. Lee's freed slaves...

I understand that Alan. Lee was dealing with a white elephant when the war broke out and he may have been happy to leave it. He had seen how some men spent their older years just living on the glory of bygone days. Many, as Harry Lee, ignoring their family to bask in that glow.

I know most 'owners' were not part of that movement but, at least there were some. That does show some conflict with the words in history textbooks concerning 'all' slave owners.
