"The Texas Brigade included the 18th Georgia Inf., Lt. Col. S.Z. Ruff, Hampton South Carolina Legion (Inf. Cos.) Lt. Col. M. W. Gary".

My two great uncles, Pvts. Alexander and Francis Boring, were in Co. A, 18th Ga. Lt. Col. Ruff had been a professor of mathmatics at the Marietta Military Academy, on Powder Springs Road, the current site of the Marietta Country Club, near the location of the Confederate Cemetery in Marietta. Ruff was later killed at knoxville. Col. W.T. Wofford, original CO of the 18th, Commanded the Texas Brigade that day, Hood having been promoted. After Sharpsburg, the Georgia troops in the Texas Brigade were transferred to Cobb's Brigade, when it was decided to have a state's troops serve together as much as possible. Upon Cobb's death at Fredericksburg, Wofford was promoted to Brigadier General and given command of Cobb's Brigade, afterward known as Wofford's Brigade. Stan
