General Hill rode a California version of the "Spanish" Texas Hope saddle from 1861 until his death April 2, 1865. His original saddle is in relic condition, with the horn broke off and most of the riggin gone, but the saddle in the picture could be of this type of saddle and the steam bent oak civilian stirrups are typical of these style of saddles.
