I thought it was interesting that it would only require 25,000 signatures to get these measures on the respective ballots. I would sign such a petition just to see what the outcome voterwise would be. Then you would get back to the 1861 question of would secession be legal or not.

But also like 1861 the US Federal Government could not afford (National Debt wise) to allow so many states seceed peaceablely. Wasn't that one of Lincoln's arguments about the money owed by the states formed from the Louisiana purchase seceeding? Would each State that seceeds not still own their share of the National Debt ($60,000 per person)?

But what happens if a Nation goes bankrupt because of it National Debt? In the case of the USSR (The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics) the various countries (States) seperated and formed new alliances. In the United States THAT would have the same effect as Secession if the "Old South" States seperated and reformed as a new country, wouldn't it?
