Re: Lincoln: the Man, not the Movie

Fiction is not the best way to cover a very sensitive subject...Errol Flynn was a good actor too, but look at how Custer's Last Stand had been imortalized for decades until the real truth finally made its way into the mainstream in the 1970s. Custer went from a hero to a buffoon. Lincoln did not listen to his cabinet or the General of the Army and purposely induced actions to start the war- he was not an innocent backwoods lawyer trying to hold the United States together, he was a corporate lawyer working for the railroads and industrialist taking whatever steps necessary to enrich his benefactors- even destroying the Constitution and the roles of States to do it. He was responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths and the economic rape of one half the nation for the other halfs benefit and took full credit for ending slavery and making all men equal when history shows very different. There is a lot to like about Lincoln, mainly his speeches and quotes (which were of ideas and thoughts quoted by earlier Statesmen), however there much much more to dislike when you research his actions.

The godlike hero worship of Lincoln has to stop, its embarrassing for a modern nation to continue this naivity towards it's own history.
