I brushed up on Booth a bit briefly from a google search yesterday. From what little I read about him he was a Northerner from Maryland?, he was a sympathizer for the South?, did not want the war to end which is why he assassinated LIncoln only after the initial kidnapping attempt failed?, his belief on the race issue was the same as Pre-war Lincolns but as war-time Lincolns positions changed John Wilkes Booth saw how this would cause the negro to become citizens and would change the nation which Booth did not want?, Booth was an actor? Booth was tracked down and shot by a NewYork Regiment?, ....
It seems that the race issue was not any different in the North or South. Seems how to deal with it was an issue, slavery or repatriation.? And then when the STates secession occurred then that became I think the point that actually began the war.? So much confusion today in understanding because so many different issues originally, and as the war progressed that it is hard to pick a side, or determine right or wrong. You may be for one of the issues while being against another of the issues. To say the South was right seceeding but wrong on slavery, or the North was wrong going to war on its citizens and right on repatriation can be confusing. Thus one can not choose a side today rather we must choose on the issues.
Like I said I am still learnin so my opinion is evolving and wobbles as I learn.
