Newton J Kidwell, a former resident of Virginia, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs M E Wilson, in Columbus Ohio on July 9, 1920 aged seventy one years. Mr Kidwell enlisted in the Confederate army at the age of fifteen years serving in Co B, 8th Virginia Regiment of Pickett’s famous division and was one of the seven survivors of Pickett’s charge at Gettysburg; five of the others were wounded. He was captured and remained a prisoner until the end of the war. He leaves his wife, one son, James Kidwell of Columbus, and one daughter. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church and a charter member and at the time of his death, Commander of Ohio Camp no 1181, U C V of Columbus Ohio.
