Your are correct that there were a number of different blue flags carried by individual regiments that could have looked like a "Bonnie" Scottish flag from a distance. From your post my mind was thinking you were only referring to the Texas Bonnie Blue Flag with the white star. That maybe the writter was mistaking the Hardee flag for that.
