No Luck of the Irish for this soldier

William Brady - Believed to be former Confederate with Company E 38th (Pittsylvania) Regiment, Virginia Infantry. Longstreet's Corps; Pickett's Division; Armistead's Brigade. Confederate CMSR's report his age at 36 when he enlisted in December 1861 and listed him as being born in Ireland. Confederate CMSR's also report his being in the hospital for having diarrhea and rheumatism and syphilis and on June 4, 1862 being admitted for having a gunshot wound to the penis and returned to duty on June 12, 1863 just in time for Gettysburg. Confederate CMSR's list him as a prisoner during the Gettysburg campaign and was shown as being desirous of joining Union Army and being transferred to the 3rd Maryland Cavalry at Fort Delaware and of having special orders from Secretary of War; Edwin M. Stanton for allowing former Confederates to join the Federal Army. 3rd Maryland CMSR's reported him being born in Tipperary County, Ireland and was age 38 when enlisting in September 1863. 3rd Maryland Cavalry CMSR's list his physical description as blue eyes; light hair; light complexion; 5'5" in height and was a shoe maker prior to the War. 3rd Maryland Cavalry CMSR's list him originally with Company D and on October 1, 1863 he is found drunk on the streets of Baltimore, Maryland and arrested for not having a pass. On May 17, 1864 he is taken a prisoner, this time by the Confederates. It appears that he was exchanged and on December 18, 1864 with the War being nearing over he is lost at sea on the United States Transport "North America"
