Once you wipe out the history which cements a people together as a nation then you can "reprogram" them into being anything that you would like. That is the way it has been done in all the Communist countries all over the world. Take away the peoples principaled behavior and you can control any populas.

Our children have already been "reprogramed" to not care about their own history and sadly most of the older people also, thanks to our Educational system and Teachers Unions. We trusted them too much and gave them a free hand to teach our children. They taught dates and politics rather than reasons, causes and effects in the history and social studies classes.

This nation needs a "rebirth" to save itself, like 1776, or 1861. However, 1861 wasn't successful. Out of it came the controlling government power which we have today.
