Re: The Mystery of the Missing Confederate Records

In Dicket Brigade history of Kershaw's South Carolina Brigade the author relates in April of 1865 finding an abandoned train on a siding in North Carolina of which at least one boxcar was loaded with papers of the Confederate States Government that had been evacuated from Richmond. He relates that the boxcar with these papers was open and the documents were blowing out of the car and down the tracks. (that was the way they had found the train was by the papers along the tract side).

This discovery was report to higher command and a guard was posted according to the author, but no other account of this train seems to exist.
